Review: Awaken the Giant Within: How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny!

Anthony Robbins

Awaken the Giant WithinThis book was the first book I was encouraged to read about NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and it’s a must read for anyone who is interested in the subject. It gives a real insight into a myriad of different tools and techniques, many of which can be used by anyone. Tony Robbins, who has popularised the subject and made it accessible to a huge number of people, takes basic NLP theories, adds some ideas of his own to create what he calls Neuro-Associative Conditioning, and packages them all in a very readable and practical way. In the book, he’ll take you through a series of stages that you can use to make positive changes in your life or that of others. He’ll show you that making proactive changes to the way you perceive your life and respond to it can have a powerful effect on the way you live your life. It’s a very western approach to personal development, but most of the techniques in the book can be used by anyone as they are, or modified to suit other cultures.

A word of warning; this book is not a quick read; you’ll need to set aside a good chunk of time to get the benefit from it, but you’ll be glad that you did when you come to the end. If you read it with an open mind to gain what benefit you can from it, you’ll discover a world of new possibilities.

I once read a book "Stop Worrying and start living" , Yes by Dale Carenegie, I was fascinated, yet when I read "Jaded Hayatak", an islamized version of the book by shaykh Mohamed Ghazali, I was more fascinated.

Assalamu alaykum Torjuman,

I did a search to check out "Jaded Hayatak"; it looks like a great book, but it only seems to be available in Arabic at the moment. Perhaps you could persuade some of your fellow translators to translate it into English for non-Arabic readers?

Sadly, we don't have many good books on personal development specifically from an Islamic perspective in English...yet. But, alhamdu lillah, there are more coming onto the market now and I'll be reviewing some of them later. In the meantime, there is a lot of great material out there that we can benefit from, taking what fits in with the deen and leaving what doesn't.
