In Who are You, I promised you that I'd read this book and write review on it and I'm so glad that I did. It's a great little book that just stuffed full of ideas and exercises to help you get over the "I can't handle it!" feeling that makes you retreat back into your shell whenever you feel fearful or nervous about doing something.
As the book says, if you're afraid of: public speaking, asserting yourself, making decisions, intimacy, changing jobs, being alone, ageing, driving or losing a loved one it will give you tools and insights to vastly improve your ability to handle any situation...as long as you put the ideas into practice that is! Working through the chapters you learn about the Five Truths about Fear, how to move from a painful position to one of power, the value in developing positive thinking and making no-lose decisions, saying "yes", choosing love and trust, the Higher Self and more.
The more I read the book, the more I began to think, "she is just writing about Islam". Every principle and every concept she mentions has an Islamic equivalent. When she talks about the Universe, she is talking about Allah. When she talks about the Higher Self, she's talking about the highest level of the nafs (spirit); making no-lose decisions and saying 'yes' are about accepting and embracing qadr (Allah's predestination); choosing love and trust is about gratitude, forgiveness, loving for your brother what you love for yourself, etc. etc. The difference is that in this book she is giving practical suggestions based in our time to help us to put these wonderful concepts into practice. I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on this below.
If you're struggling with a fear of doing anything (not to the level of phobia though) I'd really recommend this book. My suggestion would be that you read the book through once to get the general feel of it, marking pages that might be of particular use to you, and then come back to them and work through each of them step by step.
You can get your own copy of it here: Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway
