Review: Rich Dad, Poor Dad

Robert T. Kiyosaki and Sharon L. Lechter

Rich Dad, Poor DadHaving been raised in an environment that valued academic success and saw that as the best way to social and financial success, I was always wary of business and enterprise and saw it as a risky way to live. I never thought that I could succeed at it, because I felt that I was “too soft” to go into business. But this book opened my eyes to a new way of looking at money and the way it can be earned. When I looked back at my life, I saw that I did actually have many qualities that would enable me to succeed in business; apart from being a risk-taker I have also now have developed many skills that would be useful in the business world. You don’t have to be born into a business culture to succeed at it; If Colonel Saunders can start his most famous enterprise at 65, there’s hope for many of us yet! This book encouraged me to see that success in business is based on the determination to succeed, being confident in your own abilities, a lot of hard work, a dollop of luck and Allah opening the doors for you.

As well as being a good story-teller – as that is apparently what this book is, a good story to illustrate the ideas - Kiyosaki gives a wealth of simple, practical, and straightforward advice and principles that anyone can adopt to improve their financial literacy and management...it’s definitely a book that's worth having a look at, at the very least.

JazakiAllah khair Sister for sharing this with us. Yeah often times I have the same fear that for me it's tooo soft to do survive in this fast paced business world where everyone only want to crush you regardless of how well there state might be (May Allah protect us from such evil actions), one gets confused and than leaves the idea of being an entrepreneur. I have many related fears about being a businesswoman as I don't like to be a subordinate or an employee of the ones who most of the time doesn’t respect you for what you are and what your ideas are. So it ultimately leads you to a highly demotivated state where you rather prefer to remain in a status quo and don't excel at all. I terribly fear this latter state and that's why want to be an entrepreneur, Inshaa'Allah. May Allah helps us to only depend on Him, the Self-Sufficient. Ameen
Yes, the key to success is firm determination and trust in Allah.

What a lovely comment; you really do sound as if you're ready to make some big changes in your life Sister in Islam. May Allah give you the courage to take the first brave steps, the wisdom to take them in the best way for you and the right people around you to support you!

Remember: Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. (Surah Al-Rad, 13:11)

So what steps have you been taking to overcome your fears so you can achieve your success? I'd love to hear about them, if you'd care to share.

JazakiAllah khair Sister Amal for your soothing appreciation. Indeed we need to change ourselves in order to change the poeple around us. Sister i have not yet taken that brave step to change myself altogether but i am seeking Allah's help to gain the required confidence and have complete tawwaqul in Allah. Still in that process may Allah help us all. Ameen. Sister the first thing i learned and helped me to protect my self-esteem is never to complain to others except to Allah, the Most High. When we complian either about our conditions or other people that reveals the weak side to others....on the other hand if we complain about our flaws to Allah swt to help us overcome them that makes you rather more stronger...as its between you and the Lord of Heavens and Earth. Isn't that a beautiful feeling. SubhanAllah.....hmmmmmmmmmmm being pratical i have to learn more about Entrepeurship....but what i learned in order to expect something really good it dua + 110% Hard work to attain what we are planning to do...

Ma sha Allah Sister, it sounds as if you are setting the groundwork on your self-esteem, which is great. And how are you working on the fears you identified earlier?

What is preventing you from working on your goal to learn more about entrepreneurship?

Fears...i have really thought about it...i lack confidence to face the people and the main thing that is restricting me from learning more about entrepreneurship and practical knowledge is that I fear how to express my goals in a more realistic manner to my family and others...such things allow me to gather the required skills to go for my goals and attain them...i feel to gain some basic Islamic knowledge in order to gather the required strength to face all sorts of criticism. Am i correct in my thoughts Sister Amal?

There is no doubt that gaining Islamic knowledge is always beneficial...however, ask yourself, if you really want to become an entrepreneur, what are the priorities that you should be be working on now ?

If we're setting out on a journey and want to reach our destination, we need to be clear of where we are starting from, we need to know what the end point of our journey is, and then we need to focus all our effort on reaching our end point and not be diverted.

It sounds as if you are developing a picture of your starting point, that you have an idea of what you don't want and an idea of what you feel might help you to avoid it, but how clear is your long-term vision; what you really want to aim for in your life? Once you have sorted that out, the other things will fall into place more easily and you can then begin planning your long and short-term goals.

i really got what you are trying to tell me and this compels me to really work on my long-term goals, i sincerely have to work hard on that but that will inshaa'Allah help me direct all my efforts to one solo thing.
But the point is at times i get over exited and dream very very high and interestingly for MANNNNNNNNNNNNNY THINGS to achieve, so now i have identified my biggest problem that is to identify long term goals. jazakiAllah khair for highlighting me the need for identifying one's starting point of his journey of life in order to be successful.
